Storms River Mouth Boulder Beach Cave
Length: 89m | Grade: 5D | Surveyed: 2006-06-29
Peter Swart
This cave is situated on the eastern banks of the Storms River between the swing bridge and the sea. Cross the bridge to the rocky beach on the eastern side and climb over the first rocky buttress. A narrow path winds between tangled bush at the top of the buttress and then to a high shelf that slopes down to a narrow gully with steep vertical walls. The sea surges up this gully over a beach of rounded boulders. The boulders are dressed with woody jetsam at the high tide mark.
Description
A steep sandy-loam slope rises at the back of the gully up to a large cave entrance. The floor slopes gradually into the cave and is littered with large boulders and debris from the ceiling. The cave passage is a straight vertical slot and extends for about 90m. Bats were not seen on this trip.
