Boiler Room Cave

Field Detail
Surveys No Survey
Dimensions Length: 30 m
Rock Table Mountain Sandstone

A large piece of the low cliff has broken away from the coast, leaving a gully running parallel to the shore, and another gully running out into the open sea. At the junction of these two gullies, lies Boiler Room Cave.

Boiler Room Cave is typical of the sea caves along this coast. The sea has widened a joint in the sandstone, which now extends over 30 m into the base of the cliff. The cave terminates in a small, low chamber. The cave derives its name from the brown, flaky mineral deposits on the ceiling of this chamber, as it resembles the inside of an old rusty boiler. There is little possibility of further progress in this cave.
