Penn Bay Crack 1 and 2 Cave
While exploring the coastal cliff behind Skuinsbaai, we found a number
of caves that appear to be expansion cracks in the top of the cliff. We
found four cracks. As these cave entrances are well hidden in very dense
fynbos, there could well be more.
Penn Bay Crack 1&2– 10m long, 8m deep
A few boulders had to be removed to get into this cave, but once inside,
progress was easy. The cave has a lot of plant debris and a short slope
of small stones at the northern end. The southern end runs towards the
cliff, and from the way the sandy floor has been sculpted, the slot
obviously carried a lot of water during the rainy season. Crack 2 is no
more than a trench about 2m deep.
