Elephants Innards

Peter Swart, 22 Mar 2026

I really have no idea what this cave is called, but in keeping with the Elephant theme, I refer to it as Elephants Innards.

The cave is right next to Elephants Arse Cave, and has a passage/chamber running parallel to the outside cliff. There are 4 separate entrances leading from the outside to the chamber, so most of this part of the cave is usually in a twilight zone.

The northern end of the chamber ends in a boulder collapse, under which is a small damp chamber.

Biology

Spiders are common residents of the cave, as are bristletails. Today (22 Mar 2026) there were a lot of juvenile bristle tails. Judging by the pile of old droppings in one corner, a mammal of some kind regularly used the cave as a toilet.
