Elands River Mouth 1 Cave
Region: Elands River Mouth
ERM 1 – 30m
ERM 1 is a small cave about a 1m above river level on the eastern bank of the river. The direction of the main passage runs perpendicular to the river. At high tide, the sea pushes into the river mouth, and washes along the base of the step leading up to the cave. At some time in the past, the cave was partially filled with sand, which has subsequently been washed out near the entrance. This has left a platform at the back of the cave, with a steep step down to the entrance.
During the visit, we found two Rhinolophus bats flying around in the cave, but did not attempt to identify them further. This cave was surveyed.
