Take Breath Cave

Anthony Hitchcock and Peter Swart, TBD

Extension: 10m

Introduction

On the 28th August 1936 John Meyer went looking for his lost axe and records in his diary: ‘I painted the name “Take Breath” and crawled into a small grotto which I saw there while looking for the axe.”

Description

The entrance to this small cave is roughly at the same level as Step Aside. It is very small and partially obscured by camphor trees (Tarchonanthus camphoratus). The passage is very low requiring one to slide on ones stomach. The dry sand is easily stirred up filling the place with choking dust hence the name. The passage is not much more than 10m long and bends slightly to the left at the end where it closes down. There is a short side passage half way on the right, which becomes too low.
