Egyptian Cave
Length: 30m | Grade: 5C | Surveyed: 1984-03-24
Extension: 20m, Height:5m
Egyptian Cave is a chamber, 20m long by 6m wide. The 5m high roof is arched, and the floor of the cave is horizontal. This would indicate that the cave formed along a vertical joint, which intersected with a bedding plane, in the form of an inverted T. The two side passage at floor level tend to support this idea. This floor is on the same level as the lower section as Styx Dungeon, while the floor of JohJoh Spelonk is 6m above the floor of Egyptian Cave.
The entrance has been opened by the collapse which formed the JohJoh Spelonk gully. If the collapsed chamber theory is correct, the cave may well have been a side chamber to a much larger cave.
Chimney Cave is close to, and above the low passage opposite the main cave entrance.
