Newlands Ravine

16 December 1993 [pgs]

Joan and I left Rhodes Memorial at about 13h00 and made our way up to the contour path, then up Newlands Ravine. In the ravine we found the Priestlia spp were just in seed, and up against the kloof wall we found a number of ®MDUL¯Erica marifolia. We had tea at the top of the saddle, then made our way up to the top of Devil's Peak. On the way down, we saw a Rock Kestrel and a pair of Black Eagles. We also saw ®MDUL¯Erica abeitina, both the normal one and the one that looks a little like E.conica. We made our way down the Cape Town side of the saddle, and around the contour path to the car. The day was hot and humid, and most uncomfortable, but the views from the cable car to Cape Point, were not at all bad.
